Text messages exchanged amongst Madras College pupils have suggested there had been another abduction attempt, this time on a boy in Guardbridge.
Stories also emerged on social media that a boy had been abducted outside Torbain Primary in Kirkcaldy last week.
However, officers investigating the original incident confirmed there was no substance to these other reports.
The Leuchars probe will be stepped up when a mobile police station is set up in the village with extra officers carrying out door-to-door inquiries.

Last Tuesday’s incident has caused widespread concern among parents, pupils and the community.
After striking up a conversation with the first year Madras College girl the man tried unsuccessfully to coerce her into his car. The pupil escaped unharmed.
Pupils are being urged not to walk home alone and the incident has prompted other schools across the region to remind youngsters of the “stranger danger” message.
