Police are trying to establish Mary Logie’s movements in the 12 hours between when she was last seen alive and the discovery of her death.
The 82-year-old, known to friends as Rae, was bludgeoned to death with a rolling pin in her own home in Leven.
She was seen safe and well at 8am on Tuesday and found dead in her living-room by a neighbour between 8 and 8.30pm.

Chief Inspector Keith Hardie, leading the investigation, said: “We know that she spoke to neighbours and had expressed her intention at that time to visit a friend and carry out some shopping in the area.”However, it is not yet known whether she did leave her Leven house later that day.
Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team are carrying out door-to-door inquiries, checking CCTV footage and speaking to as many people as possible in an attempt to establish when her attacker struck.
Mr Hardie said: “My number one priority at the moment is to try to narrow that period down so we know exactly when this crime has taken place to give us a direct focus on a particular time.”
Forensic inquiries are ongoing at Mrs Logie’s Green Gates home.
There were no signs of forced entry and detectives are yet to determine whether anything was stolen.
Mr Hardie said: “We are carrying out an extensive house-to-house investigation.
“There is not one individual we are focussing on at the moment.
“It’s a matter of looking at CCTV opportunities in the area and also speaking to as many local residents as we can in the hope they have seen something suspicious or someone acting suspiciously in the area.”
