Police hunt bikers after man hit at Fife beauty spot

Police in Kirkcaldy are hunting two men after a pedestrian was injured by motorcyclists at a beauty spot.

The man was walking on Johnnie Marshall’s Loan, a footpath to a woodland area behind the crematorium, when he was struck by the pair last Friday.

Both riders made off following the collision, with police determined to catch those responsible.

The north of Kirkcaldy has for years been blighted by illegal motorcyclists, although Dunnikier Park is the main hotspot for the activity.

Sergeant Graeme Neill has appealed to the public for assistance in tracing the two men responsible.

He told The Courier: “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have information that can help to identify the riders involved in this serious incident.”

Both riders are thought to have headed west towards Chapel Level after the incident, which took place at around 2pm.

The riders are both described as being stocky in build and were wearing helmets, with one rider wearing grey clothing and the other wearing a bright lime green outfit.

The bikes are said to have been unregistered trail bikes with one white and yellow with the number 525 on a yellow front plate. The other is green and yellow with numbers on the side panels.

“If anyone recognises the description of the riders or their bikes, please contact Police Scotland on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111,” Sergeant Neill added.

Many of Kirkcaldy’s parks and public spaces have seen the illegal riding of motorbikes and quads.

As well as Ravenscraig Park in Dysart, the north of the town has also become a favourite playground for those wanting to ride their machines off-road or in parks.

Last summer the problem hit the headlines when a toddler in Templehall was struck by an off-road bike in a hit-and-run incident. The two-year-old escaped with minor injuries.
