RESIDENTS OF Glenrothes are being urged to have their say after the Post Office announced that a branch in the town could be moved.
A consultation has been launched over the future of Carleton Post Office on Woodside Way, with operators keen to move the service.
Members of the public are being asked to contribute their views to the proposals, which would see their local branch moved to the Spar store on Bighty Avenue, around half a mile away.
The launch of the consultation has prompted sadness from local councillor Ian Sloan but he admits he is ultimately relieved there are no plans to remove the postal service from Woodside.
“I think it’s a great shame as the post office in Woodside Way has been going for as long as I can remember,” he said. “However, there is a new-style post office in Coaltown of Balgonie and it works very well.
“There won’t be any loss of service, which is a relief.
“It will cause a bit of disruption to people at the top of Woodside Way but for people in Bighty Avenue and around there it will be welcome, so it’s a bit of a balancing act.
“But there is a six-week consultation and I would strongly urge the people of Woodside to take part in it.”
The Post Office says sharing premises with a convenience store will improve services, resulting in opening hours being extended by around 67 hours a week.
Sue Richardson, Post Office regional network manager for Scotland and North England, said: “We understand how important having a post office is to residents in Glenrothes and we are confident that this new modern branch will make it easier for our customers to do business with us and also secure services for the future.”
“The proposed changes to the branch are part of a three-year investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”
