A weekend fire that claimed the life of a Dunfermline man is not being treated as suspicious, The Courier understands.
The 42-year-old was declared dead at the scene following the Saturday morning blaze at Skibo Court.
Flames ripped through the first floor flat, with residents evacuated from the building as investigators examined the property for a cause.
However, while their findings have not been made public, it is understood the fatality is not being treated as suspicious.
Neighbours told The Courier that the man had only recently moved in.
One, who did not wish to be named, said: “He was very quiet and kept himself to himself. I don’t think he had been here for very long maybe a couple of months.
“I was out when it happened, I think most people here were, but when I came back I was told that we had to be evacuated.”
Another, who lived opposite the burnt-out flat, said: “It’s really sad news. He was new here and I didn’t know a lot about him.
“People here keep themselves to themselves but it’s such a shame.”
Fire crews sealed off the New Row just down from the Alhambra Theatre as fire crews set about tackling the blaze at around 11am.
The road was closed for around two hours, with diversions put in place.
Police sealed off the building, with a special fire investigation team entering the premises just hours after the flames had been extinguished.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Fife responded along with other emergency services to a fire in Dunfermline at around 11am on Saturday 5 July.
“As a result of this incident, which happened at an address in Skibo Court, a 42-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries into the fire are ongoing.”
