Resurfacing which is expected to challenge the patience of motorists going in and out of Cupar this week has been welcomed by a town councillor.
As detailed in The Courier last week, temporary traffic lights went up on South Road at 9.30am on Monday, beginning a week-long daytime programme of work.
The road is to be resurfaced between Ceres Road and Knox Gardens and drivers have been warned to expect long delays until Friday evening.
However, Councillor Margaret Kennedy says she is delighted that the work is going to be carried out, as it should help in alleviating some of the problems experienced by residents.
“While I respect that there will be challenges for drivers, it is hoped that the resurfacing works will assist in reducing the concerns of residents around the vibration of traffic on this busy road,” she said.
“There is never a good time to resurface a main arterial route into the town, however as this is school holiday time hopefully traffic will be a little more manageable.
“This work is being viewed as part of wider examination of the area in terms of traffic speed management.”SubstandardTraffic lights will be in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm each day to minimise disruption, while access for emergency services will be maintained.
It will be a similar situation on Carslogie Road, where resurfacing work is also being carried out this week.
The works are likely to be a source of frustration for motorists and the news for many drivers over the coming weeks isn’t much better, with part of the A92 due to close for around six weeks next month as strengthening works at the Edenbank Bridge are carried out.
Transport Scotland will be doing the repairs and refurbishment of the bridge and the section of the A92 between Freuchie and Ladybank affected will be closed from September 12 to accommodate the work.
Diversions will use the A91 and A912.
Routine inspections found that the structure has been suffering from water ingress defects and severe masonry deterioration.
A special investigation and subsequent assessment determined that the structure is substandard in load-carrying capacity and has been temporarily propped to act as a safeguard.
