A living tribute to Poppyscotland has been blooming in Glenrothes.
Earlier this year the Take a Pride in Glenrothes group embarked on a project to pay tribute to the work of Poppyscotland in 2011 the 90th anniversary of the Scottish Poppy Appeal.
Fife Council’s parks and community events officer Keith Jackson explained that the idea was to recognise the significant anniversary and to pay tribute to their work with veterans by planting poppy meadows along Western Avenue.
“At the same time we included a mix of perennial Ox eye daisies which we hoped would provide a contrast with the poppies and would also flower in future years.
“The results speak for themselves and we are hopeful of continuing this initiative should we be able to attract some sponsorship,” he said.
Councillor Bill Kay, who serves on the Take a Pride in Glenrothes Group is delighted with the scheme.
“This recognises the ongoing support of the people of Glenrothes, and I look forward to this being a fitting tribute for years to come.”
Leanne Morton of Poppyscotland said: “This lasting and fitting tribute in celebration of our 90th anniversary will be visible to the community for years to come and will help to raise awareness.”
