Two pedestrians killed in tragic accident in Kirkcaldy

Two pedestrians have died in a tragic road accident in Kirkcaldy.

The horrific crash happened near the town’s Asda superstore on Dunnikier Way at teatime and involved a black Land Rover.

Two adults on foot were fatally injured in a collision with the vehicle on the B981, which runs past Dunnikier Industrial Estate.

The male driver of the Land Rover was uninjured.

The collision happened on the eastbound carriageway of the two-lane road, near the Asda roundabout and a set of traffic lights.

Dunnikier Way, from the junction at the Asda roundabout to the Gallatown roundabout, was closed to allow emergency services to carry out their work at the scene.

A Fife Constabulary spokesman confirmed officers had been called to the incident at around 6.30pm.

The road was closed to all traffic while specialist officers carried out a detailed crash investigation and to allow vehicle recovery to take place.

Earlier, rumours had circulated that the collision had involved two children. However, Fife Constabulary later confirmed that no children were involved.

Inquiries into the tragedy are continuing and the police have asked anyone with information about the incident to call Fife Constabulary on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
