FIREFIGHTERS yesterday rescued a trapped Clydesdale horse from the River Leven.
Three-year-old Corra slipped on icy ground and fell into the river by the A911 near Windygates before 7.50am.
She was trapped in the water and became distressed when she was unable to free herself.
Around 27 crew from Fife Fire and Rescue Service worked for nearly two hours to rescue the horse.
A spokesman said: “The horse wasn’t able to physically get herself out. We got into the water and used animal rescue slings to manoeuvre her out. She was in the water a long time and was beginning to get cold.
“She remained calm throughout and wasn’t injured. Once she was out she was checked by a vet and was able to move about again. I think we got to her just in time.”
Eight units from the fire and rescue service had attended the scene from Lochgelly, Glenrothes and Methil.
Margaret Horne, whose mother-in-law Rosemary Currie owns the horse, said: “The rescue was absolutely amazing, the fire crew were fantastic.”
