Two deaths in Pitlochry street treated as ‘pure coincidence’

Two deaths on the same Pitlochry street have been deemed non-suspicious by police and their proximity confirmed as “pure coincidence.”

The peace of the town was broken last week as a large number of officers including forensic specialists moved into Aldour Court to investigate the double death mystery.

Neither victim has been publicly named but it is thought they were friends who lived close to each other on the street. Both bodies were found on June 10 in separate properties. It is unclear how long they had been there.

Police initially arrived to look into the disappearance of a 61-year-old man, reported missing two days before.

They arrived at his home to discover him dead and when they went to interview a 70-year-old friend on the same street, they found his lifeless body in his home as well.

A police source said, “The two of them were friends and well known to each other. When the first body was found, we went round to his buddy’s house to speak to him and found him as well.

“That kicked off an investigation in case there was more to it but it was a pure coincidence that they’d died around the same time.”

The Aldour Court area is a cluster of homes mainly for older people off Perth Road to the south of the town centre.

One resident said, “This is a really quiet part of town. We couldn’t believe it when all the police arrived it was like something off the TV.

“When we heard what had actually happened we were just in shock. It’s terrible to think those bodies could have lain there a couple of days.

“We had seen the pair of them together and knew they liked a wee drink together it’s just tragic that they weren’t found earlier.”

A spokesman for Tayside Police said, “The bodies were found as a result of a missing person inquiry. Inquiries were made and there were no suspicious circumstances.”
