£1.1m Blairgowrie visitor centre plans back on track

Ambitious plans for a £1.1m visitor centre at Blairgowrie are back on track following the intervention of the Scottish Government.
The development on the banks of the River Ericht was placed in jeopardy when Perth firm Clachan Construction went into receivership, placing doubts over the feasibility of completing the project in the time scale required by the Town Centre Regeneration Fund.
“BARRC (Blairgowrie and Rattray Regeneration Company) is pleased to announce that the Scottish Government has granted its request for a time extension, until the end of 2011, for the building of the visitor centre in Blairgowrie,” said a spokesman for BARCC yesterday.
“This extension was vital after Clachan Construction was taken into receivership. In granting the extension, the government took into account the fact that the hydro scheme had already started and would generate income for the benefit of the community.
“Meanwhile, the building committee of BARRC are preparing to put out to tender to three companies for the building of the new centre.”
