Beauly-Denny pylon line workers celebrate a towering achievement

Three years of mud, sweat and toil have finally come to an end for a team of workers on the Beauly-Denny pylon line.
The last tower foundation for the £350 million project has been completed at Amulree, near Crieff.
All 539 blocks are now in place in the Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) transmission section thanks to the efforts of 140 members of the Balfour Beatty foundation teams.
Since work got under way, they have poured 67,000 cubic metres of concrete enough to fill 27 Olympic swimming pools to secure the 2,156 tower legs into position. Beauly-Denny project director Alastair Brand described the programme of works as “challenging” and said they were “delighted” to mark its completion.
“The foundation teams have battled through Highland winters, along with working on challenging terrain, including bogs and mountainsides, to reach their goal,” he said.
The 136-mile Beauly to Denny project is due for completion next November, when the final 18-mile section between Braco and Denny will be switched on.
