Work has started on restoring an ancient monument in Highland Perthshire to its former glory.
Despite standing strong for up to 6,000 years, the Dane Stone toppled earlier this year following days of heavy rain.
The megalith, which is believed to date back to the Neolithic Era or Bronze Age, has been lying prone in a field in Moulin since the beginning of February.
Now, experts are carrying out archaeological excavations in a bid to find out more about its past.
This is expected to be completed within the next two weeks, following which the stone will be returned to its rightful place.
A spokesman from Historic Scotland told The Courier: “The Dane Stone at Moulin fell over at the end of January following a period of wet weather that may have been a factor in its fall.
“Historic Scotland has since agreed with the landowner to fund a small excavation and the subsequent re-erection of the stone, which is a scheduled monument.”
