A Perth man who abducted, scalped and repeatedly raped a teacher in addition to assaulting two other women was sent to prison for a total of 10 years at the High Court in Perth.
A jury found Barry Dalton, 40, guilty of charges including beating the woman, punching and kicking her, compressing her throat and brandishing a pair of scissors at her.
The car dealer was also found guilty of assaulting a former girlfriend, pinninganother woman against a wall and ofpunching and brandishing a knife at a man.
Sentencing Dalton, Lord Glennie said: “You have been convicted of a series of assaults against defenceless young women, including a sustained and brutal assault on a woman which left her battered and bruised.
“The severity of the beating you inflicted before raping your victim three times demands a lengthy custodial sentence. It must be made clear that such conduct is unacceptable.”
He continued: “You clearly have anger management issues, but that does not explain your violent conduct or the rapes that followed.Any rape, particularly accompanied by the use of force, necessitates a lengthy sentence.”
Dalton had been found guilty of the abduction and rape of the teacher, whocannot be named for legal reasons, in Perthshire on November 17 and 18 last year.
He was also found guilty of detaining her and dragging her off a couch by herhair, scalping her, dragging her across the floor, hitting her with a plastic card and shoes and brandishing a pair of scissors at her.
The jury found Dalton guilty of punchingand kicking the woman, brandishing a plank of wood at her, compressingher throat, threatening her for refusing to have sex with him and repeatedly raping her.
Dalton was also found guilty ofdetaining another woman between March 1 2007 and June 30 2008, at addresses in Perth and Caputh.
The court heard he detained her untilshe tried to climb out of a third floorwindow to escape and then Dalton dragged her back.
The jury also found Dalton guiltyof assaulting another woman inPerth and of brandishing a knife at a man at an address in Perth, on November 12 last year.
Sentence was backdated to November 21.
