Fearless fundraisers are being asked to don their best underwear for a summer charity event.

Volunteers from Auchterarder have organised the town’s very first Fundies in yer Undies family day out and are urging people to get involved.

Participants will complete a sponsored walk around the town and, to get into the spirit of the event, they will wear a decorated T-shirt, vest or for those feeling brave enough bra.

Although the main aim of the afternoon is to provide vital support to Cancer Research UK, members of the Auchterarder and District fundraising group also hope to raise awareness of their other work.

Volunteer Abbie Taylor said: “There are bra banks in the town, which are currently held at Whispers Lingerie, St Margaret’s Health Centre, Davidson’s Chemist and Louisa Clements hairdressers.

“Bras which are donated into these banks are sent to help women in third world countries or are recycled and a donation given to Cancer Research UK.”

She urged anyone taking part in the fundraising fun day, to be held on July 26, to take along their unwanted underwear.

As well as a sponsored walk, the Fundies in yer Undies event will also feature races, a football match, face painting, a bouncy castle and live music. It will kick off at noon at the Western Road public park in Auchterarder and all are welcome to attend.

To take part in the sponsored walk, people can sign up at www.justgiving.com/teams/fundiesinyerundies or pick up a form from The Tearoom restaurant or Caf Kisa, both on High Street.

The team hopes to raise at least £3,000.

As well as the family fun day, the Auchterarder fundraising group will also hold a joint event with Macmillan Cancer Support in September to celebrate the Ryder Cup.

This will be discussed further at the next group meeting, which will be on September 3 at the Glendevon Hotel and is open to anyone interested in supporting their efforts.

Further events have been planned for October and November, meanwhile, including a variety show and two ceilidhs.
