Thousands of visitors have flocked to Glenshee, eager to make the most of the ideal skiing conditions.
Cars lined the roads approaching the popular centre for much of the day. With schools across England and Scotland now enjoying a half-term break, managing director Graham McCabe expects it to get even busier.
He told The Courier his dedicated team had even managed to dig out several lifts, which had been encased in snow following a number of storms in November.
All but two are now back in use.
“It’s been very busy,” he said.
“There are a lot of holiday-makers here. I don’t know how many campervans are parked here.
“We are totally stowed out. It’s not just the car park that’s full every space along the side of the road is in use.”
Although it was another successful day at Glenshee, he revealed that Sunday had been one of their busiest days of the year.Photo gallery:Glenshee Ski Centre enjoying bumper timesQueues of traffic tailed back for over a mile in either direction, with skiers facing a similar wait to get on the lifts.
Police were also forced to close the A93 approaching the centre at 10am. Around 3,000 people were estimated to have spent the day at Glenshee on Sunday and at least 2,000 were on the slopes on Monday.
Mr McCabe added: “Mid-term is always a busy time for us and this should be a busy fortnight.
“It’s been pretty rotten up until now so, if it would settle down as it has today, that would do nicely.
“The conditions on the hills are just perfect. The next few days aren’t going to be too bad either although Friday is forecast to be quite windy.”
There was also some drama on the hills at the weekend, when an unfortunate visitor was airlifted to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
The crew of Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance rushed to the resort on Sunday to escort the stricken skier, landing on the nursery slopes.
Senior pilot, Captain Russell Myles, said: “The time factor makes a real difference when you’re talking about somewhere like Glenshee, where we have been twice in the past week.
“The ski patrol there does a great job in attending to the casualty and preparing them for airlift, as well as clearing the landing site for us.
“Our paramedics can then attend to the casualty and we’re able to fly them to advanced hospital care in just 15 minutes.”
