Heavy overnight rain caused problems on the roads in many parts of Perthshire this morning.
A number of motorists came to grief on the A94 between Meigle and Alyth, getting stuck in flood waters.
A delivery van became stuck just after 6am and was towed away, before three BMWs became stranded between 6.50am and 8am. Two of the cars were towed out by a tractor, while the third had to wait for a flatbed truck.
A spokesman for Police Scotland’s Tayside Division confirmed the incidents saying: “A member of the public called at 6am to say that the A94 was flooded and a road supervisor was sent out to check and put signs out.
“Since then we have had reports of cars in the middle of the flood water at the same location. It would appear that people were ignoring the signs already in place and continuing up the road.”
Among the bus services disrupted was Stagecoach East Scotland 57 and 59 services due to flooding in Coupar Angus which required an 11-mile diversion in each direction.
Low-lying farmland in the Strathmore area disappeared under flood waters as did land between Dunning and Forteviot.
In Scone the heavy rain caused problems in the Wheel Inn car park which required pumping out and on Balformo Road where sandbags were placed to prevent water encroaching on buildings.
SEPA had 10 flood warnings in operation in Tayside but no severe flood warnings.
