Hail to the ale Alan Cumming toasts Homecoming beer in selfie

Hollywood actor Alan Cumming has toasted beer from his homeland in a ‘selfie’ photograph.

The 49-year-old Aberfeldy-born star took the impromptu image of himself with a bottle of Inveralmond beer at Fonab Castle, during his recent visit to Aberfeldy his home town to open the Birks Cinema.

The beer will be featured at key Homecoming Scotland 2014 events and is described by its creator Ken Duncan as “an exuberant ale which displays berry sweetness on the palate and aromatic hoppiness, crafted to encapsulate the energy and presence of our incredible nation in 2014.”

Fergus Clark, managing director of Inveralmond Brewery, said: “We were delighted to hear that Alan enjoyed the Homecoming Scotland 2014 limited edition beer and has given it the taste test.

“Opportunities like Homecoming Scotland 2014 give home grown Scottish companies genuine prominence on an international stage and we’re very proud to know that one of our first bottles was given the Hollywood treatment.”

Hollywood star Alan Cumming who once worked for DC Thomson & Co Ltd – is now a recognised actor in the US, having made his name in ‘Cabaret’ in Broadway and acted in the hit movie ‘X-Men 2.’ He is also now features in the TV series ‘The Good Wife.’

Brought up in Aberfeldy, he was educated at Carnoustie High School and went on to graduate with a BA in Dramatic Studies from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow.

Orders for the Homecoming beer are flowing in with it being exported to Italy and Sweden. In addition, markets in Australia, New Zealand and the US have shown strong initial interest in the product.

Inveralmond Brewery also exports its beers to continental Europe, Americas and Asia Pacific. The independent craft brewer employs 18 people, and their turnover hit £1.5 million last year.
