Budding actors will be learning New Tricks from a homegrown TV and film star.
Denis Lawson, who is best known for his roles as Red Leader in Star Wars and Urquhart in Local Hero, will lead a film masterclass in Crieff.
The workshop in the town’s former library is part of the ambitious Strathearn Artspace project to transform the building into an arts centre.
A number of pupils from Morrison’s Academy and Crieff High School will be shown how to shoot a film scene and how to work with a director and crew.
Throughout the day, a professional team from Glasgow will film four scenes, ranging from TV show Friends to the latest James Bond film, Skyfall.
Lawson told The Courier he was “very much” looking forward to inspiring youngsters to learn more about the world of drama.
He said: “This is, first and foremost, a response to the Artspace project itself.
“When I came here and saw it for the first time, I really thought it was an exciting space and that I could run a film workshop from here. I was also very keen that pupils from both schools will be acting together.
“When I was at school here, there was a big divide between the two it’s much, much better now but I still like the idea of them coming together.”
Lawson already has experience of encouraging people to follow acting as a career, as his nephew Ewan McGregor got involved in films after watching the 66-year-old in the original Star Wars series.
Lawson, who starts filming the latest series of BBC detective show New Tricks next month, added: “The thing that excites me about helping get this project off the ground is that I think it would give the town a real lift.
“I was always very sad that the cinema here closed and was turned into flats it’s where I was inspired to get into acting when I was five or six.
“This will be a very cool venue and I am hoping it will have a similar impact on Crieff as the Birks Cinema has had on Aberfeldy. “It is going to get a whole new generation involved in the arts.
“Young people are the future audience for these places.”
