The funeral of former Dundee, Dundee United and St Johnstone footballer Ian Redford will be held in Perth on Thursday. Redford was found dead in woods near Irvine, Ayrshire, earlier this month. Brought up in Perthshire, Redford began his senior career with Dundee after playing for Carse of Gowrie amateur side Errol Rovers. He became Scotland’s most expensive signing in 1980 when he moved from Dundee to Rangers for £210,000. He went on to play more than 200 games for the Ibrox club before returning to Tayside in 1985 when he joined Dundee United. Redford was a crucial member of the Tannadice Park side which reached the UEFA Cup Final in 1987, losing 2-1 to IFK Gothenburg over two legs. Redford also played for Ipswich Town, Brechin and Raith Rovers. The 53-year-old’s funeral will be held at Perth Crematorium on Thursday at 2pm.
