A well-known Perth pub has drawn up ambitious plans for an outdoor seating area as part of a £150,000 transformation that will create 10 extra jobs.
That Bar in South Street aims to have two zones of seating within an area enclosed by moveable rope barriers to allow customers to enjoy eating and drinking outside in good weather.
The pub is currently undergoing renovations, which will lead to bi-fold doors being built at the front of the building and the creation of a new dining area.
In addition, a new kitchen will take shape, with fixed seating and a feature fireplace. nAs a result of the revamp, the number of staff will increase from 50 to 60.
The pub is run by Centreglobal Ltd, which also plans to turn the Thai restaurant, which is attached to Rocablu in the Speygate, into a gourmet burger bar.
A supporting statement submitted along with the planning application for table seating at That Bar outlines the reason behind the revamp, which will include knocking through to a former designer shop to form the dining area.
The statement says: “The function of the areas during the day is to allow the premises to open the bi-fold doors during good weather and have seating areas accessible through these doors from inside to outside areas.
“The area to be occupied still leaves a two-metre clear passing area on the pavement for pedestrians to pass during the day and leaves the entrance/exit to premises clear.”
Chef Jack Marsh will oversee the food operation.
A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: “I can confirm that Perth and Kinross Council has received a planning application for the part change of use of pavement to form an outdoor seating area at 145-151 South Street, Perth.
The application is pending consideration under the normal planning process.”
The refurbishment of That Bar should be completed by early June and the gourmet burger bar is due to open in mid-April.
