Breadalbane Community Campus finally opens its doors

Breadalbane Community Campus finally opens its doors

After years of planning, consultation, building and preparing, Highland Perthshire finally has its new community campus.

The Breadalbane Community Campus in Aberfeldy will bring together a state-of-the-art school and host of facilities for the town and surrounding area.

It opened to pupils on Thursday, with Breadalbane Academy pipe band leading them in.

It is one of six campuses built through the council’s multi-million-pound Investment In Learning programme.

The campus will offer modern classrooms for nursery, primary and secondary pupils, sports and recreation facilities, ranging from a swimming pool and fitness suite to climbing wall, sports pitches and squash courts.

Provision for lifelong learning and community events includes meeting rooms, a lecture theatre and hall with cinema-style projection and a community library with free wi-fi.

Council leader, Councillor Ian Miller, received the keys to the campus from Neil Revie of Axiom Education.

He said, “This is a fantastic day for Aberfeldy and the wider community of Highland Perthshire.

“The Breadalbane Community Campus has been created to improve the facilities available for education and public use in the area and the provision available on the campus is absolutely outstanding.

Mr Revie said, “I am delighted that we can celebrate the completion of the Breadalbane Community Campus, which will deliver excellent facilities as part of this very significant project.”

Construction of the six campuses and their ongoing maintenance is through a 30-year partnership between Perth and Kinross Council and the Axiom Education consortium.

The sports facilities will be run by Live Active Leisure, with catering by Tayside Contracts.

The community campus is open on Saturday and Sunday for free tours between 10am and 3pm and taster sessions including yoga, squash, gymnastics and martial arts between 10am and 4pm on both days.

Live Active Leisure will also be running activities for all ages next week.
