A dog owner was fined £150 at Perth Sheriff Court after his pet attacked another dog and bit it on its rear leg, leaving the animal with three puncture wounds.
Steven Winchester (23), of Church Place, Errol, admitted that on February 19 at The Beeches, Westown, Errol, being the owner of a dog a black and tan cross labrador terrier which was dangerously out of control in a public place in that it attacked and bit another dog to its injury.
Depute fiscal Stuart Richardson told the court that the accused lived in a “hamlet” and had more than one dog.
“The accused normally kept his dog in the back garden but on this occasion a neighbour put her dog in the front garden and the accused’s dog managed to get out,” he said.
“Unfortunately, it seized hold of this dog’s rear leg and the lady could not get it off. The accused assisted and the matter came to an end.”
The court heard the injured animal was taken to a vet, where it was discovered that it had three puncture wounds to its rear leg. It was treated and given anti-inflammatory medication.
Mr Richardson said the accused later took his dog to his father, who stays in Musselburgh, and it was “rehoused”.
Winchester, who defended himself, told the court he had taken the dog to his father’s to “save any problems” with his neighbour’s dog.
