Traffic chaos after seven breakdowns on Forth Road Bridge
ByLeeza Clark
Traffic heading south from Fife faced major delays this morning after SEVEN breakdowns on the Forth Road Bridge.
Traffic Scotland said a lorry suffered a breakdown, and six cars passing over debris from the lorry then picked up punctures.
The incident happened shortly after 6.30am and disrupted morning commuter traffic for over two hours.
At the peak of the morning rush traffic was being delayed for over an hour.
A spokesman for the Forth Road Bridge said: “A prop shaft dropped out of the bottom of a heavy vehicle and a number of cars went over it. That’s why there were so many punctures.
“We have an on-site recovery team here and because so many happened at once they had to go back and forth.
“Each vehicle affected had to be winched on to the back of a truck and taken off the bridge.”
The lorry managed to drive over the bridge and pull over for recovery.
The incident was cleared at 8.50am.
