Temperatures will plummet this weekend as an icy blast from Scandinavia sweeps in from the east.
Courier country can expect temperatures up to 10C lower than last weekend.
But Met Office forecasters said the chances of disruption are slight.
A spokeswoman said: “Over the weekend we are looking at temperatures of four or five degrees, in rural areas a little bit lower.
“This is only a couple of degrees below the average for this time of year which is seven degrees.
“Winds from the north and north east will bring some colder air in, but it will be warming again as we go through the start of next week.”
The chance of occasional showers could turn wintry throughout today but the forecaster said overall the weather should stay dry.
She said: “If you do get one of those occasional showers it could turn wintry and it could be a bit breezy but this is nothing to worry about. There are currently no warnings in place.”
The grey weekend offers a stark contrast to the sunny spells of last weekend, which left bookmakers slashing odds on March being the warmest on record.
The forecaster added: “It will feel chilly, especially compared to last weekend. There is about 10C difference between last weekend and this one.
“It will stay fairly cloudy and relatively dry throughout next week. The high pressure over Scandinavia starts to break down by the middle of next week.”
Simon Williams, a spokesman for motoring group the RAC, said: “Despite us being well into March, and with some parts of the UK enjoying very mild temperatures in recent days, it does look as if winter might be departing with a sting in its tail.
“While widespread snow and ice isn’t likely, motorists will need to remain on their guard, especially when driving more exposed routes.”
