Road accident victim described as ‘best friend’ possible

Tributes have been paid to a Mearns man who was killed when his car was involved in a collision with a lorry. The man has been named by police yesterday as Ronald Wilson (56), from Gourdon.

He was pronounced dead at the scene following the accident at Catterline on the A92 Dundee to Aberdeen coast road on Friday.

He and his wife Lorna moved to their home in Skelbie Place, Gourdon, two and a half years ago after returning from Azerbaijan, where he worked for the international oil and gas services company KCA Deutag.

Most recently he worked in Aberdeen as a tutor at Robert Gordon University.

In a statement released through police, the family said, “Ron and Lorna married in 2006 and spent most of their time travelling abroad and making friends wherever they went.

“Ron became a fantastic stepfather to Blair, whom he had known all of his life as a family friend. He was loved by everyone who knew him, friends, colleagues and family.”

His father-in-law who described Mr Wilson as the best friend he would ever have said, “He will be sadly missed by many people in many countries.”

The accident happened around 8.30am as Mr Wilson was travelling north. Witnesses have described how his car swerved into the path of the E & J Scott haulage lorry seconds before the collision.

It is understood that Mr Wilson had suffered a stroke some years ago and walked with a limp.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident to come forward. Contact police on 0845 6005700 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
