Former bank manager William Husband

Former bank manager William Husband has died at the age of 90.

He was born in Dundee and attended Dundee High School before starting his banking career at various TSB branches in the city.

His career was interrupted by the Second World War, where he was stationed with the Royal Navy in the Mediterranean, India and South Africa.

It was in South Africa that he met his future wife Maireen. When the war ended they were reunited after she spent three weeks on a boat travelling from her home to Britain.

They married in Dundee in 1946 and had three children, Donald, Gillian and David.

Mr Husband, above, continued his banking career after the war ended and in the late 1940s he became manager of the TSB’s Forfar branch.

He held this position for 30 years until he was promoted to area manager and was based in Perth until his retirement.

Mr Husband was a member of Forfar Rotary Club and the town’s Probus club.

He was an elder at St James Church in Forfar and a superintendent at the Sunday school.

He held the position of treasurer for the charity Scottish Huntington’s Association for many years. He was a keen bowler and walker.

He is survived by his three children, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at St Margaret’s Church on West High Street, Forfar, at 12.15pm on Friday.
