Kenneth tips David Goodwillie for Scotland call-up

The time is right for David Goodwillie to be reunited with former Dundee United manager Craig Levein at international level.

That is the opinion of Tannadice central defender Garry Kenneth as Levein prepares to select his squad for the November 16 friendly against the Faroe Islands at Pittodrie.

Kenneth, who himself is a candidate for a call-up, labelled his colleague’s form as “amazing” after watching the frontman strike seven times in nine matches, the last of which was the winner against Hibs on Saturday.

Levein, of course, played a greater role than most during his three-year spell at United to turn Goodwillie into the player he is now.

So Kenneth is expecting the pair to be working together again for their country later this month.

“Goodie is in amazing form just now definitely the best of his career,” said Kenneth.

“I have known him for a long time and the improvement in him over the last year or so has been unbelievable.

“Something has just clicked, he has matured as a person and is getting better and better all the time.”

He added, “Given the form he is in I would be very surprised if Craig Levein wasn’t thinking about him for the Scotland game.

“Goodie has taken responsibility here at United, has become a man and is putting everything he has learned on to the pitch.

“In terms of the SPL, he is one of the top strikers this season so he has to be in with a shout.”

After making his Scotland debut against Sweden earlier this year, Kenneth could receive a phone call from his former boss.

However, the big defender insists he is just focused on playing for his club.

He said, “I have not even thought about it, to be honest.

“I am just taking every game as it comes for United and if I get a call-up then it will be a bonus.”
