Montrose have set themselves up for a crack at a Scottish Cup upset at Dunfermline this week after their 2-0 victory over Albion Rovers.
Steven Tweed’s side, who visit East End Park for the fourth-round replay on Tuesday, took the lead against the run of play in the first half, after Nicky Smith stepped up to convert when home goalkeeper Derek Gaston failed to collect a long ball.
The Lanarkshire side piled the pressure on their third division rivals after the restart and looked likely to equalise after a succession of set pieces.
However, Derek Cameron capitalised on their failure to find the net by scoring straight from a corner on 53 minutes.
Tweed said, “This is a difficult place to come to and they were unbeaten at home until now.
“But they had very few chances.
“Our goalie didn’t have a save to make.”
He added, “It was good to get a clean sheet and we are looking forward to the cup replay now.”
