St Johnstone are set to unveil former Dundee United defender David McCracken as their latest summer signing.
The 29-year-old centre-back left Tannadice in 2007 for Wycombe after eight seasons at United, before spells at MK Dons then Brentford.
The Scotland under-21 international spent part of last season on loan at Bristol Rovers.
McCracken is expected at McDiarmid Park on Thursday to finalise the deal.
Saints, meanwhile, have dropped out of the running to sign former Brechin City striker Rory McAllister.
The Perth club were one of a number of SPL clubs to talk to last season’s second division player of the year, but manager Derek McInnes has opted not to offer him terms.No McAllister moveHe told Courier Sport, “He was one of a number of players we’ve considered.
“But we’ve made a decision that we won’t be making him an offer.”
The 24-year-old’s agent, Ken Anderson, pointed out that McAllister now has two clubs to decide between.
Saints’ July 30 match against Rangers at McDiarmid Park has been brought forward to a noon kick-off. The game will be shown live on ESPN.
Former McDiarmid Park striker Peter MacDonald has started pre-season training with Morton.
The Cappielow club are hoping to sign him, but St Mirren are also in the hunt.
