Dundee boss Barry Smith has pleaded for supporters not to put pressure on young striker Leighton McIntosh.
Frustrated fans desperate to see their team climb out of their current bottom spot could look to the Scotland under-19 international to fire them away from danger.
However, Smith insisted it would be unfair to put too heavy a burden on McIntosh and has been on a so far unsuccessful search to find another frontman to add to Steven Milne, Graham Bayne, Jake Hyde and McIntosh.
”We have not managed to get a striker in yet but we will keep trying,” he said. ”We just need another option up front, I believe.
”For example, Leighton is still a bit raw and is a young boy who still has a lot to learn.
”He is only 18 so there is no way he can be expected to be carrying everybody’s hopes on his shoulders. That would be unfair because he is nowhere near the finished article.
”He did so well last season that everyone expected so much from him this time around. Even when he was scoring the goals for us, though, I kept saying that he had a lot to learn.
”We have high hopes for Leighton and we do think he can go on and play regularly in Dundee’s first team. However, you can’t put too much pressure on him at this stage.”
