Dundee are to pay a heartfelt tribute to much-loved fan Wullie Reilly at Saturday’s game against Raith Rovers at Dens Park.
Wullie, whose funeral was held on Monday, will be honoured in such a way that he will be ”backing” the Dark Blues during the game.
Following a minute’s applause, Dundee’s team will play wearing Wullie’s name emblazoned on the back of their shirts.
Club chief executive Scot Gardiner said: ”This gesture is only possible thanks to the kind and generous gesture of our current ‘back of shirt’ sponsor Metro Motors/Scott Fyffe Garage and, in particular, Ian Falconer, who is giving up this sponsorship for the day. We are extremely grateful for such a magnanimous act of respect.
”Wullie was unique and a friend of fans, players and directors alike and his dedication to Dundee FC was legendary.
”Accordingly, an exclusive and once-in-history tribute will be paid by the football club. RIP Willie and, on Saturday, we know you are with us and are truly still ‘backing the Dee’.”
