Dundee United boss Peter Houston is looking for a reversal of fortune on Wednesday night against the only team to beat them in the last 12 matches.
United travel to Paisley to face St Mirren looking for revenge for a 2-1 defeat at Tannadice on November 10 when two Michael Higdon goals secured all three points for the Buddies.
But, having watched his side salvage a late draw at Kilmarnock at the weekend, despite being down to nine men, Houston believes his players possess the character and spirit to triumph this week.
“St Mirren are the only team to beat us in the last 12 games so we know exactly how difficult it is going to be down there,” he said.
“At Tannadice, they sat in behind the ball and hit us on the break. They played well and did it very effectively.
“I expect them to be every bit as solid on Wednesday. I looked at their team the other day and it is full of experienced pros.
“With the likes of John Potter, Michael Higdon, Lee Mair, Jim Goodwin, Steven Thomson and Craig Dargo added to the younger ones like Paul McQuaid and Darren McGregor, they have a good side.
“They know the game inside out and will be a difficult team to break down.Solid”By all accounts, they were very solid against St Johnstone at the weekend and got what is always a good point at McDiarmid Park.
“But we are in decent form and will go down there with plenty of confidence.”
United have received a boost ahead of the match with the news that Garry Kenneth, who was only fit enough to take a place on the bench against Kilmarnock, has resumed full training and is certain to start against St Mirren.
However, striker Jon Daly, who filled in for the Scotland man at centre-half, is banned after being red carded and so is team-mate Scott Robertson.
Craig Conway will again be in the side but United are without the injured Paul Dixon, Scott Severin, Darren Dods, Mihael Kovacevic and Danny Swanson.
“Garry Kenneth has returned to full training, which is a major boost after having two players sent off on Saturday,” added Houston.
“We are down to the bare bones because of injury and suspension but there is no point banging on about it.
“Everyone gets these phases but you just have to get on with it.
“What I will say, though, is that the players have been magnificent.
“We have had guys come in to play in unfamiliar positions but they have done well.”
