Dick Campbell’s Forfar side are becoming increasingly frustrated with their growing backlog of fixtures but are cautiously optimistic that Tuesday night’s second division trip to Dumbarton will not become the latest casualty of the winter weather.
A morning pitch inspection will determine whether the game at the Strathclyde Homes Stadium will go ahead but Campbell admits his men, who have not been in league action since November, are desperate to play.
Although he and his coaching staff have been holding regular training sessions in an attempt to preserve the team’s fitness, he admits two months without competitive football will have had an effect on the squad.
Campbell said, “We’ve got a really big backlog of fixtures already. I think we have 23 games to get through before the end of the season.
“The players are chomping at the bit for a game. We haven’t played since November and if this goes ahead it’s going to feel a bit like a pre-season friendly.”
One advantage of the lack of match practice is that the Loons have an almost full squad of players available.
Only striker Dale Hilson, who is on loan from Dundee United, is an injury doubt heading into the clash with the league’s bottom club.
However, defender Mark McCulloch will miss out due to work commitments.
Sons boss Alan Adamson said, “Forfar may not have played for a wee while, but Dick Campbell is a wily campaigner and he will have his side well organised and out to win.”
