Tom Brighton’s short and sharp stint with Dundee comes to an end at Cowdenbeath this Saturday but the trialist striker hasn’t given up hope of making a permanent switch to Dens Park.
The transfer embargo the Dark Blues are working under prohibits anything longer at the moment but if they emerge out of administration next month that situation could change.
One thing is for sure the club has made a big impression on the former Rangers, Millwall and St Mirren man during his brief time in Tayside.
“I knew the rules before I came here,” he said, “that I could only play as a trialist for three games.
“Hopefully the club will soon come out of administration and it can put the transfer embargo behind them and start with a clean slate.
“I’ve been grateful to have been involved in the last two games and for the team to have got good results. I’ve not even looked as far ahead as next week.
“I’ll hopefully sit down with Barry, have a chat and see where we take it from there.
“I’ve really enjoyed myself here. The boys and the manager have been different class.
“I can’t speak highly enough of the people at Dundee. Everybody is pulling together.Commit”As I’m not registered with a club I don’t have to commit to anyone in the transfer window.
“So from my point of view I don’t feel in any rush to sign for somebody by Monday.
“But I do want to get my future sorted out soon,” Brighton added.
“I’ve heard the rumours that February 8 could be the day when things get sorted out with the club.
“I’m not thinking about that just now though. Saturday against Cowdenbeath is the most important thing at the moment.”
When Dundee last travelled to Central Park in September they had promotion on their minds but now they are focused on staving off relegation.
Brighton said, “Tomorrow is another really important game for the club. Cowdenbeath are a team we’ve got to have our sights set on.
“With the run we’re on we’ve got to go into the game with confidence. The reality of being bottom has sunk in but we’re not going to settle for it.
“Nobody’s looking too far ahead. The first target is to get to Stirling Albion and then it will be Cowdenbeath.
“We had a great result against Falkirk last weekend and hopefully we’ll take that form into tomorrow’s match.”
He added, “Cowdenbeath’s ground maybe isn’t the prettiest, it’s very much old school, but they earned the right to be in this league under Danny Lennon and Jimmy Nicholl has continued the good work with a strong start to the season, despite the fact that they’re part-time.”
Dundee manager Barry Smith, who has Sean Higgins back from suspension, said, “We’re expecting a really tough game. They were the last team to beat us in the league so we know we can’t take them lightly.
“Jimmy Nicholl has them well organised but we’ll be concentrating on our own performance.”
