Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has insisted they did everything by the book in the face of the latest postponement to hit the Tannadice club.
Overnight rain put paid to Saturday’s scheduled home game against Hearts, adding to the long list of cancellations this winter.
With it came a complaint from the Tynecastle club over the timing of the 12.30pm call-off, with the inspection originally scheduled for 11.45am.
The late arrival of match referee Stevie O’Reilly held things up, with Jam Tarts managing director David Southern having his say.
He said, “We entirely understand the anger and frustration of our supporters, particularly those who travel from across the United Kingdom for our matches.
“Our concern centres around the fact the weather in Dundee was extremely poor overnight and that the decision to call the game off came as no surprise in the circumstances.
“We would have welcomed a much earlier decision to try to avoid this outcome.”
He added, “We remain entirely supportive of Dundee United and the authorities but we must ensure we do everything in our power to remember that supporters are the heartbeat of our game and we must treat them accordingly.”
The Tannadice chief, though, insisted they had done all they could under trying circumstances.
Had the fixture, which has yet to be rearranged, been due to be played on Sunday there would not have been a problem.
Thompson said, “We did everything by the book and called for an early inspection, keeping the authorities informed all the way along.
“It is a setback to the club when a game goes off and we have taken a financial hit as a result of this.”
He added, “The last thing we would have wanted was another call-off.
“It just seems that someone up there does not like us as regards the weather.”
