Cowdenbeath 2 Falkirk 2: Cowden boss lines up loan signings to bolster squad

Despite being delighted with Cowdenbeath’s opening performance in the Championship, manager Jimmy Nicholl plans to strengthen his squad further before Saturday’s match with Livingston.

He has two loan signings from Premiership clubs fixed up as he bids to increase the quality available to him.

The teams battled out a highly entertaining draw at Central Park on Saturday, with Falkirk twice coming back to earn a share of the spoils.

Despite the Bairns having plenty of the ball Cowdenbeath looked very dangerous, with Sean Higgins and Lewis Milne carrying real threat and it was the latter who put them ahead on 35 minutes after taking an assist from Higgins and coolly shooting home from eight yards.

Falkirk hit back two minutes after the break with a 25-yard rocket shot from dangerman Rory Loy but the Fifers kept their cool and in 56 minutes Higgins took advantage of a mix-up in the Falkirk defence to restore the lead with a neat finish from 12 yards out.

Falkirk, to their credit, kept working hard and were rewarded with 15 minutes left when sub Botti Bai-Bi headed in a Lewis Dick cross.

“Twice we were in front and twice we were hauled back but overall it was a good performance from the lads,” said Nicholl.

“Their first goal was a tremendous finish but we kept our cool and Sean Higgins took advantage of a slip by them to put us back in front, but perhaps we were too keen to go for a third and guys were flooding forward looking for another goal.

“It perhaps came back to haunt us because we got caught out by a quick raid down our right hand side which provided the cross for the equaliser.”

The Cowden manager added: “The players showed a lot of quality out there to compete superbly with a team which will be in the top half of the table this season, but I want to boost that level of quality for this week’s trip to Livingston, if possible.

“I have two loan signings organised and I would hope to have them aboard by the time we go to Livi but if not definitely for the Alloa match the following week.”
