Montrose opened their League Two campaign by winning their first four games at home now manager Paul Hegarty is looking for his team to turn Links Park into a fortress again, starting this afternoon against Clyde.
The Gable Endies picked up another priceless point at Hampden last weekend against Queen’s Park, drawing 1-1 despite finishing the game with 10 men after Terry Masson was red carded.
The manager candidly confessed they were lucky not to lose and it was “like the Alamo” at times but the draw was another welcome sign that Montrose may have turned the corner after their comeback win over East Stirling the week before ended a run of nine games without a win.
The manager said: “It was real backs-against-the-wall stuff and we were delighted to get a point against a very good Queen’s Park side.
“All credit to our boys for hanging in there, especially after Terry Masson was sent off.
“Looking at the bigger picture, it was a precious point and hopefully we can take confidence from the last two games into Saturday’s match with Clyde and go on a wee run.
“Our results against Barry Ferguson’s team have been mixed so far this season but hopefully we can replicate the way we were playing at the start of the campaign when we were really strong and nice and solid at Links Park.”
Hegarty is keeping his fingers crossed that new signing Chris Templeman, who joined Montrose from Forfar earlier this week, can overcome a slight niggle to play his part against Clyde.
He added: “Terry will be suspended while Matty Allan had an ankle operation.
“Matty had really battled his corner in recent weeks and we have to thank Dundee for letting him come on loan to us.
“Graham Webster is back from suspension which is a big plus and we will hopefully have Chris Templeman in the squad.
“He has had a wee hamstring problem in training this week but he should be all right for the Clyde game.
“Chris is a good, experienced acquisition for us and we are delighted to get him in.”
