Crawford wants to see East Fife fight for place

East Fife must show more desire if they are to have any chance of reaching the second division play-offs this season.

That’s the view of Methil boss Stevie Crawford, who was visibly angry after his side’s 3-1 defeat to Brechin City at the weekend.

Indeed, such was the extent of the player-manager’s rage at full-time that those in the Bayview tunnel could hear the riot act being read to the squad after a pitiful second-half showing.

Made all the worse by taking an early lead through defender Scott Durie, the Fifers failed to build on their advantage and found themselves two goals down with half an hour still to play.

But failing to even find the target against a City side that gave a masterclass in playing down the clock has given Crawford food for thought about what he wants to see from his men.

Citing injuries to John Ovenstone, Steven Campbell and Stewart Murdoch, which were picked up in the game, the East Fife manager said he wants to see more commitment from his players or else any chance of making the play-offs will be all but over.

He said, “For all I don’t like seeing players getting injured, it shows a wee bit about them to try and get through the game. How many Brechin boys came off the park hurt?

“I’m not wanting my players to go out and hurt anybody but it shows the edge that they had on us and what it means to be competing in the top half of this league.

“We’re going to have to learn very quickly if we’re to have any chance of making the play-offs that there has to be a side of us that doesn’t leak goals and make it easy for other teams.”

Meanwhile, East Fife reserves are in action against Livingston in the Reserve League Cup at Bayview tonight. Kick-off is 7.30pm and entry is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions.
