Teenage Raith Rovers striker Lewis Vaughan says he is determined to continue his rich vein of scoring form against Queen of the South at Stark’s Park tonight.
The 19-year-old, who scored against Queens in the 2-1 defeat in Dumfries 10 days ago, has now netted three goals in his last four league games and would love to get on the scoresheet again if he gets the chance this evening.
Few would bet against him keeping his starting place after he grabbed Rovers’ winner against Alloa at the weekend, and Vaughan who still has another year on his contract beyond the summer – is keen to add to his tally.
“That’s me scored four for the season now and I’m delighted to keep scoring goals,” he told Courier Sport.
“Obviously I just want to help the boys get a win and the aim is to win as many games as we can between now and the end of season, but hopefully I can score a few more.
“It’s been frustrating waiting to get my chance but you can’t expect just to come into a team every week, you’ve just got to take your chance when you get it.
“Hopefully I’ve done that and I want to keep my place until the end of the season.
“I’ve been at the club since the under 15s and John McGlynn gave me my first contract as an apprentice.
“But this is my first season in the first team, I’m enjoying it and I just want to keep doing well for the club.”
A second loss to Queen of the South in the space of two weeks would all but end Rovers’ hopes of reaching the play-offs, but Vaughan is still confident his side can have a big say in the promotion race.
He added: “Queen of the South are still pushing for fourth place, they are four ahead of Falkirk now, but it was good performance for us against Alloa and it was good to get the three points on Saturday.
“Some might say it will be all over if we lose on Tuesday, but we’ll be there to take advantage if Queens and Falkirk slip up.
“We’re six points ahead of Dumbarton now so we’re more concentrating on the promotion play-offs, so we want to get as many points as we can.
“There have been a lot of games in the past few weeks so we have to take each game as it comes.
“I think it’s been eight games we’ve played over the last month or something so it’s been tough on the boys, but we just have to get on with it.
“As it stands just now you would think Queens are favourites to get fourth spot, but hopefully we can change that after we play them.
“I think it’s always been a good game when we’ve played Queens because we’ve both been pushing for the play-offs and we’ve got the same style of play, so hopefully it will be the same again this week.”
Vaughan is favourite to start alongside Mark Stewart again this evening, with Christian Nade due to serve the second match of his two-game ban and Calum Elliot unlikely to start as he continues his recovery from a knee injury.
