James McArthur can be a key man for Scotland against Poland, according to assistant boss Mark McGhee.
With West Brom’s James Morrison suspended and Charlie Mulgrew of Celtic ruled out through injury, the midfield area has become a bit of a concern ahead of the big game at Hampden tomorrow night.
However, with McArthur setting the heather on fire at in-form Crystal Palace in the English Premier League as well as scoring for the Scots against Germany last time out there is a feeling that he will be an important player in the middle of the park against the Poles.
McGhee said: “I have watched James three times recently, including the other week against Tottenham.
“He said to me that he didn’t feel he played well in that game and that his team didn’t play well but I thought he did a really good job and that Palace deserved something out of the game.
“So that’s a guy who is setting himself some really high standards and playing in a really exciting team to watch.
“He has stepped up to the mark and that’s a bonus for him and for us.
“There is no doubt that over the last two years he has become a better player.
“He has found himself.
“He was always a good player but I think now he has proven himself to be a Premiership player.
“Physically he’s stronger and he has such a fantastic focus about the way he goes about his job.
“When you see him play he’s so in the zone it’s fantastic to watch.
“He organises the players around him too.
“He is just a super player, the kind you want in your team and he deserves credit because it’s all down to his own hard work.”
