Dundee United manager Peter Houston says he can’t ask any more of his players than they are giving just now.
The Tangerines banged three goals past Inverness Caley Thistle without reply to move into fourth spot in the SPL, with John Rankin, Scott Robertson and Johnny Russell on target.
The highlight of the evening was the terrific solo effort from Russell that rounded off the scoring.
He wasn’t getting carried away, but Houston was nevertheless satisfied with yet another fine display from his men.
”That was a massive three points for us tonight,” he said. ”I don’t think the international lay-off was good for us because it seemed to slow us up early on in the game.
”I think we can play a bit better, although maybe that is being a bit critical because it was a great result.”
Houston had a light-hearted jibe at the quality of the goals, making out Rankin’s great shot wasn’t meant, that Robertson hadn’t headed the ball home and that Russell may also have been lucky.
He joked: ”We scored with a mis-hit (from Rankin), the ball came off Robbo’s shoulder and then the third one was decent, although maybe Johnny didn’t mean it either!
”Seriously though, that is four clean sheets out of five but we have also scored five goals at St Johnstone, four against Kilmarnock, two apiece against Hearts and Rangers, and another three tonight.
”I can’t praise the players highly enough. All the things you want in a team, we have them just now. That is 13 out of 15 points so there is a big smile on my face, as well as on the faces of the players.”
ICT boss Terry Butcher was understandably unhappy, saying: ”The first half was a bit even-steven then they got a goal out of nothing. That was a hell of a goal though!”
