Gavin Rae is hoping Dundee can see off Kilmarnock on Saturday and help rekindle fond memories of their march to the 2003 Scottish Cup final.
Rae is the only player at Dens who featured in that 1-0 Hampden loss to Rangers, with manager Barry Smith also starring that day.
And while that clash came during an era when the Dark Blues were spending big money on the likes of Georgi Nemsadze and Fabian Caballero, Rae hopes Dundee can emulate that this term.
Rae, who has also played in the FA Cup final for Cardiff against winners Portsmouth, said: ”The cup is always special and it brings back a lot of great memories for me.
”I am lucky enough to have played in both the Scottish Cup final and the FA Cup final.
”Being at Wembley was incredible because of the build-up and the stadium. But the Scottish Cup final with Dundee was special too.
”We beat Partick, Falkirk, Aberdeen and Inverness on the way to the final and the day itself was almost perfect.
”It was warm and sunny, we had a huge Dundee support and we played well. The only thing missing was the win.
”We now have different players but if we can get a victory on Saturday then who knows what we can do?
”The one thing I will tell the young players to do is enjoy the cup. None of our games are on TV normally so for the young players this is a chance to show what they can do.
”We are a big club with fans who turn out in incredible numbers. We will have even more there on Saturday so I hope we can give them something back.”
Rae agreed a short-term deal with Dundee after he was released by Cardiff and the hope is he will sign an extension before the Killie game.
He is revelling at the place he called home for eight years in his first spell there.
”It was an easy decision for me to come back here. I have been good friends with the manager for a long time and know a lot of people behind the scenes.
”Dundee was great for me the first time round so I wanted to try it again.”
