East Fife boss John Robertson took the positives from his side’s 2-0 Scottish Cup defeat at Falkirk.
The Fifers scalped SPL sides Dunfermline and Aberdeen in the League Cup this year but, in truth, didn’t really look like creating a similar upset at the Falkirk Stadium.
Darren Dods and Farid Al Alagui netted in the first half to ensure the win.
But a spirited display by the Fifers in the second 45 pleased boss Robertson, who said: ”Our second-half performance was much more like what we’re all about. We had a great spell with around 25 minutes to go in particular when we could have got one back and, after that, you never know.
”But a couple of things didn’t really go for us in the box. Bobby Linn fired one just wide, Steven Hislop thought he should have had a penalty and Ryan Wallace had a good strike on target as well.”
The home side nabbed an early lead when East Fife failed to clear their lines properly from a corner kick and the ball fell kindly for Dods to scramble home.
For the second El Alagui was a constant threat from high balls and he was on hand to nod Kieran Duffie’s ball past Michael Brown.
Robertson added: ”The better team won. I’ve no qualms about the defeat.”
