Dundee’s transfer movements will depend on weekend’s performance

Dundee boss John Brown is waiting to see how his squad bounce back from last weekend’s dispiriting defeat at Dens to Cowdenbeath before deciding whether to attempt to bring in reinforcements in the January transfer window.

The Dark Blues manager is looking for a big response through the rest of the festive period from his players following the loss to the part-time Blue Brazil, a setback that also saw them dislodged from the top of the table just a week after reaching the summit.

Brown has previously stated he is satisfied with the squad at his disposal and has even let three players, Steven Doris, Jamie Reid and James Thomson, go out on loan recently, but he admitted the Cowdenbeath game had given him food for thought with the window set to open in just a few days’ time.

The manager said: “We have stuck with this squad this season and they have got us into contention. Their reaction will tell me if we have to do a great deal in January or not.

“We have players out on loan just now and we will have to see whether they come back or stay out. We weren’t creative enough at the weekend and it’s an area we have to address.

“I also thought we weren’t strong enough up front. Defensively, we lost a couple of bad goals but generally we have been OK in that area and we have Kyle Benedictus coming back.

“Depending on how the next few weeks go, we will assess things come January.”
