Dundee United midfielder doesn’t see survival pressure as a burden

Dundee United's John Rankin fights for possession with Partick's Mustapha Dumbuya.
John Rankin is driven on rather than daunted by the challenge of saving jobs and careers at Dundee United.
The Tangerines midfielder admitted that he might not be speaking for everyone in the Tannadice dressing room but, from his own point of view, the pressure heaped on United with six games to go to keep the club in the Premiership will not weigh him down.
“For me it’s a motivation,” he said. “For others it could be a burden.
“I’m one of those players who are out of contract in the summer and it’s a motivation for me because I don’t want to be on the scrapheap.
“There are jobs on the line which could affect everyone at the club if Dundee United go down. That responsibility lies with us, it doesn’t lie with anybody else.
“So it’s not a burden for me, it’s a motivation.
“I don’t want to see anyone lose their job. I want to try and keep them in a job and keep myself in a job at the same time.”
