Dundee United’s masterclass at Motherwell was witnessed by representatives of English Premier League Stoke City and West Bromwich Albion.
The Tangerines won 4-0 with a display that had Fir Park manager Stuart McCall singing their praises.
The visitors from down south will have been impressed, too, as the likes of Ryan Gauld, John Souttar, Andrew Robertson, Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong all caught the eye.
It was not just the Baggies and the Potters who were showing an interest, with Doncaster Rovers’ director of football Brian Flynn also a spectator.
Meanwhile, former Scotland manager Tommy Docherty has called on Gordon Strachan to promote Gauld to the senior squad and keep him there.
The 85-year-old believes Gauld should be given the opportunity to shine at international level.
“At 17, if he is holding a league place at Dundee United, then give him an opportunity,” said Docherty. “Then keep watching him at club level.
“But it’s important that the people who watch him at club level have to know something about the game as well. You don’t send a donkey along to look at promising young players.”
