Brechin City have given themselves a platform for a League One relegation escape act thanks to the 4-0 thrashing of local rivals Forfar in midweek.
And manager Darren Dods has told his players not to squander it.
One-off results won’t be enough to save Brechin from the drop, so following up the derby victory with another three points against Ayr United this afternoon is the target.
“It was a great win the other night,” Dods said. “Especially when you consider we lost our previous two games 4-1.
“We knew that we were capable of a result like that but we haven’t shown it.
“You can tell the players as much as you like that you have faith in them but now they should believe it.
“We’re going to give it our best shot to catch Forfar.
“Basically the target is to get two more points than them before we play each other on the last day of the season.”
Dods, who was as pleased with the clean sheet as he was with the four goals scored, has Lewis Spence back and will give a late fitness test to Andy Jackson after he felt his groin tighten at the end of Tuesday night’s game.
On the challenge Ayr will present, he noted: “They are going for promotion but we’ve drawn with them here and the two games we lost were both just one goal defeats.
“We’ve scored goals at home this season and hopefully that will continue.”
