Cowdenbeath v St Johnstone: McCracken ready to face the pain again
ByThe Courier Reporter
DAVID McCRACKEN has revealed he ignored doctor’s orders to play against Hearts on Saturday.
The big centre-half suffered a horrific triple cheekbone fracture in a clash of heads with Celtic’s Victor Wanyama at Parkhead on November 11.
McCracken was rushed to hospital to undergo surgery and was expected to be out for at least six weeks.
However, with Saints down to the bare bones defensively because of a raft of suspensions against the Jambos, he bravely answered the call to arms despite having the warnings from his doctor still ringing in his ears.
Now, he insists he is raring to go again in tonight’s rearranged Scottish Cup tie at Cowdenbeath.
He said: “I had spoken to the manager over the past week but obviously the situation changed with the suspensions to Steven Anderson, Frazer Wright and Dave Mackay.
“We had looked at the Aberdeen game as a possible comeback but it had to come forward a wee bit.
“I have been training for the last two or three weeks anyway but the only thing bothering me was heading the ball in a full contact situation.
“So I did some of that through the week and it was fine.”
