Police are investigating a vicious street brawl between two Monifieth High School pupils.

The Courier has been sent a video of the brutal fight, which took place outside a Jackson Newsagents on Brook Street this week, and ends with one pupil being kicked in the face while lying on the ground.

It begins with the two combatants swinging punches at one another and, when the newsagent opens the door to his shop, the fight spills inside until the pair are separated and ushered back on to the street.

However, the fight then resumes and one of the fighters, wearing a grey jacket, falls to the ground.

His opponent, wearing a red jacket, then kicks him full in the face.

A voice on the video is heard egging on the fighters, telling one to “punch his head, it’s not hard”.

The same boy then says: “This fight is no’ ending until someone is on the ground and bleeding.”

The newsagent, who declined to give his name, said: “I heard the fight and looked outside which is when they came into the shop.

“I sent them outside and it kind of stopped. When I went back inside it started up again which I didn’t realise until it had finished.”

An Angus Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident and are offering assistance to police inquiries.”

Monifieth and Sidlaw Conservative councillor Craig Fotheringham said the fight damaged the reputation of Monifieth High School.

“It is not setting a good example at all,” he said.

“As a local councillor I am very disappointed because the school has just had a very good report from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the matter and inquiries are ongoing.”

Earlier this week Police Scotland charged two youths after videos of children fighting close to the Beauly Avenue shops in Kirkton were uploaded to the internet.

The boys, aged 14 and 15, were charged with a disturbance of the peace and a report was submitted to the Youth Justice Assessor.

A second video, of children fighting behind Asda Kirkton was also uploaded to the internet.

It showed a child in a school uniform fighting another boy wearing a hoodie.

The boy in the hoodie lands at least 30 punches on his opponent.

When one of the children tries to break up the fight a voice is heard saying “let them fight”.
